Playing Intryon with Spellmaster Classic

Paul and I have successfully played a couple of games of Intryon over the internet by using a combination of Spellmaster Classic and remote desktop. It was ugly, but we managed it 😛

At the moment the Valerians are beating the Eresat the vast majority of the time. Paul will now be doing rebalancing, after which point we will have another attempt at playing the game.

In the way of artwork, all of the Valerian cards now have initial sketches drawn. The cards for the Eresat don't have any artwork yet. Further progress will be made on this ASAP.

Something for consideration about Pauls balancing. He is only balancing them against each other, I think it would be fair to say maybe not concentrate as much on balancing until the other 2 factions are in a testable state. Just a thought.

Balancing is pretty tricky...

In balancing these first two decks against each other, we are learning about what the problems were with their initial design, and getting a grip on how certain card styles are affecting gameplay, which will help Paul to create the other two decks based on the experience we've gained.

Also, this first stage of the alpha is as much about getting a feel for the basic mechanics themselves as it is the cards. Seeing as we're going to be creating only 4 initial decks for the alpha version, I feel it's okay to spend a bit of time learning about how the game mechanics we've devised are affecting the fun and balance of the game. We already made some adjustments to the rules to streamline gameplay and will probably continue to make rule tweaks for the entire alpha period.

Obviously there will need to be further re-balancing down the line, but trying to balance all 4 decks against each other simultaneously is a lot more tricky than trying to balance 2 decks, especially given the fact we're adjusting the rules at the same time 😛

I think Paul does want to start working on the third deck pretty soon though. Which one it's going to be, I'm not sure.
