Jailbreaking my iPod touch

Wednesday 11 January 2012, 06:49:16 AM

So a few days ago I jailbroke my iPod Touch 4g that I got for my birthday back in november. it has significantly increased the things I can do with it, such as
-changing the interface (lock screen, icons, etc)
-showing system stats (memory usage, battery percentage, etc) and allowing me to easily close processes
-installing emulators. So far I've put NES and SNES emulators, which I can then control using a wiimote (since the wiimote works through bluetooth, its very cool)
-broadcasting a wifi network. which is useful on the iPhone, so you can broadcast internet to other devices on a roadtrip or somewhere, but fairly useless on an iPod. I have it because I think I can set it up to allow me to play multiplayer games that would normally require wifi, such as Minecraft Pocket edition, anywhere I wanted. (haven't tested this yet)
-ability to use the device as a network storage drive-- just look in Network Places in windows, log into device, and I can drag and drop files at the speed of WiFi. (only about 6.25mbps)
-I also plan to install something like VLC, so I can watch movies of any filetype, not just those Apple likes.

and a few other random tweaks. Overall, if you have an ipod/iphone I think jailbreaking is definitely worth the small effort. Plus it has fairly minor risk- its legal (in america, at least) and if everything goes horribly wrong the device can always be restored in iTunes to it's original factory settings.

(note: this topic will not devolve into a zune vs. ipod debate, you can discuss zunes but make another topic for arguing.)

Halloween. the old tradition of dressing up the nation's children in outfits and sending them to go knock on stranger's doors, asking for candy.

uh

yeah. anyway, discuss. Does this happen in Britain?

How to set up Text-to-Speech bindings in Ventrilo

Monday 26 September 2011, 12:53:05 AM

Here i will give you instructions on how to set up those annoying-as-fack text to speech thingies in minecraft.
Step 1: Open the ventrilo main window
Step 2: go to where it says "bindings", click the arrow next to that
Step 3: Press the "New" button in that window. give it a name.
Step 4: Click the Add button in the bottom left of that window
Step 5: Make sure you have the "Text-to-Speech" bubbly button selected
Step 6: Click in the "hotkey" box below, then click on a key on your keyboard. whatever key you've clicked will be the button you press to make Ventrilo say something. I usually go with number keys 1 thru 9, but you could use whichever keys you desire.
Step 7: Press OK, enter some text-to-speech thingy in the box that pops up (for example, "what what in the butt" is fairly annoying) and press OK
Step 8: Congratulations, everyone on the ventrilo server will hate you
