Today, I finished sorting out OUR NEW DEDICATED BOX (there's a first time for everything) which has been called ASTERION!

The screenshot speaks for itself:

Internally, Asterion will be referred to as GSA2.

Assuming tests go well, ASTERION will be permanently replacing MADRAS (because we can't afford to keep both servers running indefinitely). GSA1 will continue to operate, since it is already paid for until August 2012 and makes life about a zillion times easier (the backups are all automated and the control panel is awesome).

Oh, and those who haven't donated, if you would kindly contribute something (even just a few quid) that would be brilliant.

Robert, when i get some money, I will donate. but I actually have nearly no money (and i dont want to take out of my savings, im saving that).
I would send you all my loose change but it'd probably cost more in postage than it would be worth

And this new server is completely and utterly EPIC in every single conceiveable manner. I will donate as soon as I am able to manage, which will be soon, no worries.

Alright.

This will cost about 1.5x what Madras did; to get the price that low, I have had the box set up as unmanaged with basically no support. There are no automated backups or RAID, so we have to back up manually. I'm not sure we really need to pay 2-3 times as much for massive level of support though. All we really need is "help, it's down, please fix". Do note that if we have a severe problem, the server will probably be down for a while, as I'm basically at the bottom of the priority list for the data-center.

Ok. Well, I think that'll be fine. We just need to keep downloading the backups from Asterion to our computers, so if the server crashes or shuts down, we can somehow figure on a backup for when it comes up again. The server is physically in a well maintained environment though I'm guessing, so major problems that require such assistance are unlikely... I'm hoping.
