I could list dozens of reasons like food, culture, sports, taxes, population density, history, politics, lack of french speakers, etc, but all I really need to convince most of you is the weather. Canada is damn cold. And most of America isn't nearly as cold.
And even if for some morbid reason you did like the freezing weather, you should remember that the US is incredibly geographically diverse-- you could live in a place that gets incredibly cold in the winter and still has moderate summers.

USA USA USA

Indeed-Canada is nice tho, but US=better. I understand that our economy's poo right now, and that it's too hot in Elk Grove in the summer, but if you don't like EG then go and live in Tahoe, or by Shasta, where the property's cheaper. Just... California's the best man. Because you can live in the desert, by the beach, in the snow, all in California.

I guess our taxes are higher and that it's harder to move here and get a job, so on so on, but, that all goes into something. We're not all bad, it just trades off. We've got all sorts of beautiful places a short drive or road trip away, we've got the beach, we've got big houses that are cheap right now, wonderful people(really depends on location), and countless other things.

It's really up to you I guess. Because Canada does have a lot of things over the US. But we'd rather you move here, or something, because that'd be more convenient for us. Not convenient for us to have to drive to Canada through Twilight fan haven.

I myself am Canadian. Can't say much about our economy or politics cause I'm 15 and now really into any of that. At all. But in terms of weather, we're not as cold as you think. Yes, November-March/April is our long cold season, but in the summer months we can get really warm. Last summer we had a week or two of 40 degrees Celsius, thats 104 degrees fahrenheit for you guys. I understand it's not as warm as you guys, but any warmer than that I don't really want. We can go from -40 (thats mostly only in alberta) to +40. In my opinion, I don't like the commercialism that California seems to represent, but that may just be me. I've only spent a total of two weeks in California so my opinion may be off. People seem to think we're really far North, but we're really not. Our Northern territories (Yukon, Nunavut, North-West Territories.) contain very few of our population. Most of our population is basically as close to you guys as we can be. In history, you guys would've been apart of your country if you didn't rebel right? You were apart of the colonies taking over the New World, but you split off form us and took over the lower North America. I think majority of our population can speak or understand french to some length, but the REAL french people of our country are in Quebec. The Quebec people are actually so afraid of being assimilated into the english cultures, that there's a significant party in our government wanting Quebec to become a separate country.

That's really interesting actually. I kinda knew the population really far north was rather thinned, but not to that extent. I suppose you guys and us(except for these French-Canadians you speak of) are very similar.

I kinda don't like the image California gives off most of the time either, that we're all just sun-baked party-goers who get drunk every night and put neon signs all over our cities and so forth (that's an exaggeration and I'm sure Kian will bring out the "blub blub why do you hate California blub truck") truth is I don't hate California, it's just the incredible location and geography and so on. post to be continued, im not done

Turns out (i learnt this in my social class the other day) the northern part of the country (Nunavut, Northwest territories) is actually owned and governed by aboriginals because that was apart of our treaty agreement with them.

The Aboriginals live in Nunavut because it was a revision on the numbered treaties we made with them in the 1800s. They govern themselves, but their laws have to abide by Canadian laws

Don't live in the U.S. permanently. As in don't have babies over here unless you have a solid career. Don't get a job that will be outsourced or cut.
Although the standard of living is ok, unemployment is huge, around 12%, and that's just the number of people registered as unemployed.
Money isn't really going into the improvement of our infrastructure.
If you want to pay for overpriced, unnecessarily large/powerful vehicles and buildings, the U.S. is great because you have no other options unless you really work at it.
Canada is where intelligent young americans go during times of military draft.
Canada is where free thinking americans go to buy marijuana.
When you say "border patrol", I'm thinking southwestern U.S. and Mexico, not Northern U.S. and Canada.
Here in Califonia, with a population of about 50 million and over half speaking spanish, you better know spanish.
Elk Grove's crime is rising, and for all of you who live in the area, you know exactly what I'm talking about when I say "Stockton". It's Wild Wild West. Guerrilla warfare.
Oh and I almost forgot to mention the war on meth in the area too.
As for medicine, we prefer pills. And other simple methods of acheiving good health while we are oblivious to what it is. I think like 80% of adults in the U.S. are overweight.

I've read of american travelers going around the world with canadian flags sewn onto their backpacks because it can be dangerous to let others know you're american.
Just a little perspective on world view.

My view is that there are many great points to the U.S. in relationship to other areas of the world. For one example; there have been many wars fought on european soil but only a handful here.

A lot of that applies to any country. Oh look, we're in a global recession, employment isn't great anywhere. Public opinion is generally against substance use. Crime rates increase as cities go from a population of 30,000 to 200,000. and so forth.

My point is that you aren't going to be perfectly happy with any country. But america, which has thousands of universities, dozens of states to choose from and a history as one of the most free and stable countries in the world is close enough for most people.

I would agree with Kian-we have our problems, but we're pretty effing awesome.

You don't HAVE to know Spanish and be a California resident, it's just pretty useful. I learned German instead of spanish in High School because I really *--------------------------------*(racist statement). But anyways, yeah. It's hard to argue when you have deserts, beautiful mountains, lakes/reservoirs, rivers, river rafting, massive cities, the beach, the snow, the Grand Canyon, San Fran, Vegas, and LA just a road trip or a short flight away.

There is nothing more freaking fun in my opinion than a road trip, especially on abandoned, disused highways in the Western US. Me and my dad have made 2 big trips to Bonneville in Utah with the Durango in the last few years, and we've probably consumed about a small country's worth of petroleum doing it, but you see so much scenery and pass so many interesting sites and small towns.

But-that's just me. I was kinda... born here, so I am a bit biased towards my own country, but, meh. I am a bit irritated at the fact that I can't simply apply to a local retail outlet and expect a possible job in return, because of how bad employment is. If it got that bad, and another country was better, then I would consider moving.

Well, America and Canada are quite similar, but a lot of things marketed here don't make it to Canada. The Zune being an example. Now, don't give me a "Zune is a crappy device anyways so why would Canadians want it" stick up your butt response, I'm being goddamn serious about trade here. Living in Canada, you do sacrifice some awesome tings that you'd have in America.

Yeah, America gives off this image and standpoint you may not want to be associated with, but there's way more to America than that. I'm not just talking about goods and market now, I'm talking about housing and living. Houses are dirt-cheap because of the mortgage crisis, I think someone could bring some of their money with them and start living it up. However-California houses in particular are still high dollar, however I'm not sure you'd like to live in central Nevada.

Previously inhabited by Native Americans who formed large stable societies based upon getting along and loving one another whose wars rarely resulted in ravaging the entirety of their known world.

You can buy things from third party sellers off ebay and other auction/advertising sites, but most of the time websites will refuse to ship American-exclusive products to Canada.

Well, China and Italy are a ridiculously long ways away, whereas if we wanted a bit of Canada culture, we'd just drive there.

Also-I'd imagine a mini-Canada wouldn't be much different from the rest of the city, just... driving or walking into the mini canada, it'd start snowing, you'd hear everyone say "Eh?" At the end of everything, and the whole place would be lined with maple syrup shops.

Canada does not have a better history, you just probably haven't studied ours as much as yours. Our 19th century was pretty bad ass.
As to "sky height" versus America: 2011 - Canada's economy grew 2.2%, United States' 1.7%. Not that much different. Nor to speak of the relative sizes... 15 Canadas is one United States.

I'd most likely prefer Canada to USA, even though I live in the USA. Considering I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I'd say I'm like another part of Canada. ;D

You know ash, the more I learn about the positions of the far right in our country, the more I sympathize with your opposition to living in the US. "Contraception is immoral"? "Satan is attacking America"? what is this, the 1800s?

merh. The US has a lot of awesome tourist destinations. Canada has... Vancouver. And that's about it. From what I recall. You guys will probably have a scream fest and put all sorts of Canadian tourist destinations, but that's not the point. The POINT is that we're more interesting.

I know some idiot is going to bring up Niagara falls, so I'm going to say it first, so they can't.

Niagara Falls.

Haha.

Lies Vancouver is boring. You can visit Calgary, Edmonton if you want a massive mall, the mountains which is my favourite, got a ridiculous number of cool places there like lake louise, sunshine, fernie, castle, nelson, whistler, blackcomb, etc. Saskatchewan and Manitoba are lame, Northwest territories are just cool to look at, Ontario has tons of tourist attractions that i have no clue about, and Quebec has an extremely old mountain range in it. Also fishing and sailing fans can visit the Maritimes.

Anyways, I personally hate big cities. New York was boring for me.

Actually Trevor you have misinterpreted what I was looking for with this thread, I was more interested in peoples opinions as to who are the freer more politically and socially endowed of the two rather than the geographical merits. (The US could win in this respect as it incorporates such vast geography mountains, desert etc.) But yes ultimately I would say Canada win.

What you're saying is that Canadians are more intelligent than Americans. I am forced to agree with that assessment; it is obvious simply by looking at their variant of English.

Really, Canada should be an "it"; countries are usually considered to be single entities, rather than collections of people, at least grammatically.

IS more french than America. We got so pissed off at you guys (france) for being responsible parties in 2003 and telling us not to invade Iraq that we renamed French Fries to Freedom Fries.

So as it turns out it was Luke_Jesse, so those random facts of his that nobody cares about make sense, and are finally at an end :P

When he said Canada was more french i was thinking that he was saying the majority of it was french speaking, which is false. As Canada was first formed from the British North America Act, which naturally means most of the population was english speaking as its the BNA act, not the FNA act.
